All the girls wanted to date him. All the guys wanted to be him. Since the late 80s, Zack Morris has been a staple in teenage life. Saved by the Bell aired only from 1989 through 1993, but it’s left a lasting impression on American youth. For 20 years the show has ran in syndication on both TBS and MTV2, proving the show is timeless. The world watched as Zack Morris matured from a middle school class clown to the sensitive husband of Kelly Kapowski. Though he’s everyone’s favorite beach bum from Cali, there’s much more depth to our favorite prankster.
Zack Morris is a single child. In “The Mamas and the Papas” Zack blames his ill behavior towards his “son” Screech on the fact that he’s a single child and wanted his wife (Kelly)’s attention all to himself. He lives with his mother (who remains nameless other than “Mom” by the boys) and his father, Derek Morris.
As a child he didn’t have any pets, but does look after Becky the duck in the episode “Pipe Dreams.” Zack grows attached to the animal and treats it like a dog, even walking it on a leash. However, an oil spill results in tragedy when Becky’s pond is destroyed and she dies.
In middle and high school Zack is a representative for the student council. During the first episode of “Good Morning Miss Bliss,” Miss Bliss calls Zack out for resigning from his post on student council when he’s concerned that his summer girlfriend will find out he’s only in eighth grade, not ninth. Later in high school, in the episode “Breaking Up is Hard to Undo,” a fight ensues at a student council meeting when both Slater and Jessie and Zack and Kelly are on the rocks. Though Zack appears to have a lack of excitement for school, he’s involved in a number of other dance and social committees as well. He even won the class presidency in “The Election.”
The most unbelievable fact about Zack Morris is that he’s actually the smartest one out of his group of friends. Jessie Spano may study the hardest to get into a good university, but after the SATs we learn that Zack scored the highest out of all six friends with a 1502. Jessie only scored in the 1200s.
Since Zack has the pretty boy looks and charm, it’s only natural that he’d want an “easy” job in entertainment. As career week approaches in “Pinned to the Mat,” he shares with his friends that he has plans to be a game show host and Mr. Kelly Kapowski (good news for him- half of this comes true).
Though Zack Morris attends Bayside in Los Angeles, according to “Good Morning Miss Bliss” he grew up in Indianapolis with his friends Lisa, Screech and principal Mr. Belding.
At one point in the show Zack kisses all three of his female friends- Kelly, Lisa and Jessie. He and Jessie have been best friends since kindergarten and question their relationship when they have to kiss in the play “Snow White and the Seven Dorks.” In “The Bayside Triangle” Zack and Lisa share a kiss after he helps her put a fashion show together to get into fashion school. Kelly and he share many intimate moments throughout the show of course as Bayside’s “It” couple.
Zack even listens to popular music like the average teen. This includes Bon Jovi, Guns ‘n Roses, Paula Abdul, MC Hammer and U2. Since he is Zack Morris, he always has the best seats to the hottest concerts, too.
Zack Morris may live all teens’ dream life, but he’s just like your average California beach bum.
